Okay..is it me or is Michael Phelps the newest best looking, sexiest heartthrob to hit the television screen since Dr. McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy?? Before you get the wrong impression, I'm happily NOT married...so I'm free to drool all I like!!! :)
I've been hooked this week on the Olympics! Funny thing is I think the Olympics is a true testament to my coming of age...meaning...I'm no longer young enough not to care about the Olympics. But I was thinking the other night as I was watching...(and yes, I've watched other sports during this Olympics besides swimming!!)...what was it about this Olympics that has made me want to watch!
Well..for starters...there's the Women's & Men's Volleyball team that have had an impressive showing thus far. Then the excitement of watching our Women's Gymnastics team compete against China for the Gold and even though they lost...was like watching a basketball brawl between Carolina & Duke & I found myself yelling at the tv as our American women competed trying to spur them on!!! And then the other night I had the amazing discovery that Ping Pong is an actual Olympic sport...I mean has my head been in the sand folks or is this a new entry to the Olympics this go round. But the whole week, nothing has been quite as exciting or stood out more to me as watching Michael Phelps do his 'swimming thing'. Absolutely astounding...(oh...I was referring to his swimming...not his muscles...just to be clear...LOL). Breaking the world records and winning a total of 5 Gold medals thus far has propelled him very quickly to super sports star status alongside the likes of Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods & Jeff Gordon! I mean, heck the Chinese even love this guy so that tells you he's got that "IT" factor! And who knew you didn't have to be on American Idol to acquire that label???? I think the thing that I've been most happiest about this week is for once the media is hyping something that actually has some merit for a nice change. I don't feel duped that the media has made Michael Phelps out to be some kind of superficial 'Swim God" because I've seen with my own two eyes what he is totally and fully capable of doing in the water that could be done regardless of the extensive media coverage and attention paid to him.
Every now and again, we get a true sports champion and hero that makes us proud. It's my guess that even if Michael Phelps doesn't win the remaining three Gold medals up for grabs that would only make him break more world records, we, as Americans would still love him anyway. He's the epitomy of what a sports figure should be and lends a perfect example to us all of what it takes to be a great American.
Oops...gotta run....Michael (we're now on a first name only basis) is up to compete in less than an hour...oh did I just say that...what I meant say is...oops gotta run...the Olympics are on!!! Well..I think you get the picture. Hey...and just for the record...the Olympics are a wonderful source to stitch to! Now...I wonder what it would be like to stitch Michael Phelps???? HMMMM!!
Happy Stitching! :)

Just saw a special on him on the evening news. His body proportions are PERFECT for a swimmer. Long upper body, short lower, big feet, wide arm span. Basically saying he was meant to swim. Being in the ortho field, his only flaw is he needs braces and surgery!! I can't look at him without screaming, "go see an orthodontist!" LOL He even trained at U of MI and my boss teaches there. We told him to get him in the clinic!!!
So true, so true! He and his family have been a joy to watch. But there's another swimmer, Ryan Lochte, who is also pretty cool. I read an article on him and it was hysterical. Life with him in the house must have been nothing but wild and energetic. Read up on him - really funny.
married, not married - Phelps is eye candy! And a great swimmer ;o) So have to agree with Nancy about the teeth. Love to watch him but hurts to see him talk :(
He is amazing. I saw the same story about his physical characteristics that make him a good swimmer, and as a genetics/anatomy/physiology geek, I found that pretty interesting. He has a 6'7" wingspan...now that's quite a reach!
And not only is he very good at what he does, he displays good sportsmanship. Far too many athletes don't even know the meaning of that word anymore.
I watched MP in the last Olympics and thought he was awesome then. The only reason I became interested in swimming at the time was due to my taking swimming lessons at age.... 36! I'd always wanted to learn. Then Olympics was going on. Now here he is 4 years later... and has 6 golds! Great for him :) I've been tuned into the beach volleyball and the gymnastics as well. I'm so proud of those girls! Especially winning the 1-2 in the All Around. Go USA!
Not only is he good in his field, he's not arrogant about it. Sure he's might a little cocky, but he's got a right to be. And his teammates have had nothing to bad to say about him and state he cheers them on as much as they cheer for him.
